LIACOM is joining the celebration of the 60th anniversary of CNID – Sports Journalists Association by co-organizing the conference “CNID, 60 years: Perspectives on the present and future of sports journalism”, which will take place on May 5 at 4:45 pm, in room 2P9 at ESCS.
The initiative brings together journalism professionals, academics, and researchers to discuss the contemporary challenges of sports journalism at a time marked by profound transformations in the sector.
The opening session, scheduled for 4:45 pm, will feature remarks by André Sendin, President of ESCS, Jorge Veríssimo, Director of LIACOM, and Manuel Queiroz, President of CNID.
The first panel, at 5:00 pm, will focus on “Sports journalism in transition: from sustainability to editorial identity”, with contributions from Bernardo Ribeiro (Editor of Record), José Manuel Ribeiro (Director of Canal 11), José Manuel Fernandes (Observador Publisher), and Hugo Gilberto (RTP). The session will be moderated by Luís Cristóvão (CNID).
At 6:00 pm, the second panel will address “Journalism and journalists: challenges, limits, and horizons”, featuring Ana Isabel Costa (Vice-President of the Journalists’ Union), Paulo Ribeiro (Member of the Secretariat of the Professional Journalist License Committee), Jacinto Godinho (RTP journalist, university professor, and researcher at CICANT), Maria João Taborda (Advisor to the Regulatory Board of the ERC), and Paulo Couraceiro (Researcher at OBERCOM and CECS-UMinho). The session will be moderated by Maria José Mata, ESCS lecturer and LIACOM researcher.
The conference marks a historic milestone for CNID and highlights LIACOM’s role in fostering critical reflection on contemporary journalism, strengthening the link between academic research and professional practice.
