This meeting, held on World Book Day, will feature a screening of the documentary A Leitora, followed by a conversation with the film’s protagonist, Maria da Encarnação Silva, and the project team, Joana Souza, Joana Pontes and Ricardo Pereira Rodrigues. The documentary tells the story of how Maria became a reader and, later, a teacher. In the film, Maria returns to her hometown, a small locality in the interior of the Algarve, to revisit the moments that sparked her interest in books, including a remarkable episode of unexpected reading during a mass in her childhood.
The session invites discussion on the role of communication—particularly audiovisual communication—in promoting reading, while also exploring the potential of audiovisual media as an educational tool and a means of preserving memory.
The documentary stems from the DOC-EDU project, developed by the School of Communication and Media Studies (ESCS-IPL) and LIACOM, in partnership with the School of Education of Lisbon (ESELx), with funding from the Polytechnic University of Lisbon (IPL) through the IDI&CA program. The project also includes partners such as the António Arroio Artistic School and the UNESCO Chair on Communication, Media Literacy and Citizenship.
The EntreLinhas Reading Club is organized by the UNESCO Chair on Communication, Media and Information Literacy and Citizenship (LIACOM/ESCS-IPL).
