LIACOM researcher Filipe Barrocas Lima published the article “We Are On: an analysis of multimedia content about COVID-19 on the Directorate-General for Health’s Instagram (2020–2023)” in the journal Comunicação Pública, available in open access.
Created shortly after the pandemic began, the DGS’s Instagram profile revealed a communication style that was sometimes reactive and sometimes proactive, with a strong presence of content about COVID-19. The strategy was thorough and informative, using social actors, consistent design, and positive discourse. The critical reflection proposed in the study highlights the importance of consolidating communication practices that promote transparency and the usefulness of public health information, both during and outside of crises.
