Launch of the UNESCO Communication, Media Literacy and Citizenship Chair

The participation in the session is free, but a registration is required.

The session will be attended by the Executive Secretary of the UNESCO National Commission and includes conferences given by two relevant personalities at national and international level, in the areas of Communication and Media Literacy: Maria Augusta Babo (researcher at Nova University of Lisbon) and Paolo Celot (founding member and general secretary of EAVI – Media Literacy for Citizenship). The event program also highlights two cultural moments by students and professors from the Music in the Community project and the School of Dance, as well as a visit to the exhibition of the Landscape Museum/“Entre Serras” Project.

This is the launch of the first UNESCO Chair in Communication and Media Literacy, established in Portugal and at ESCS/Polytechnic University of Lisbon. The Chair intends to promote a collective process of empowerment and engagement of people as global citizens, with communication and media literacy at the center of strategies, while foreseeing an open and inclusive culture of communication, based on the respect for human rights and democracy, contributing for the communicational development and the understanding of the world.
