LIACOM expresses its deepest sorrow at the passing of Professor João Abreu, a researcher at the centre and an outstanding figure in the fields of communication, design, and culture within the Portuguese academic and scientific community.

Throughout his career, Professor João Abreu was distinguished by his innovative thinking, creativity, and remarkable ability to build bridges across different fields of knowledge. As a lecturer and researcher, he made a significant contribution to the advancement of communication research, leaving a legacy defined by his commitment to the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and to fostering a close relationship between academia and society. One of the most remarkable examples of his vision was the Landscape Museum, a research project that he conceived, founded, and directed, and which later became a LIACOM research structure. This initiative exemplifies his ability to bring together research, innovation, culture, heritage, and technology, promoting new ways of understanding and interpreting the landscape as an object of knowledge, memory, and public engagement. Today, the Landscape Museum stands as a lasting testament to his scientific vision and his ability to transform innovative ideas into landmark research initiatives.

At LIACOM, we will remember not only his dedication as a researcher and the invaluable scientific contribution he leaves to the academic community, but also his generosity as a colleague, his inspiring spirit, and his constant willingness to share ideas, challenge perspectives, and encourage new ways of thinking about communication.

At this time of profound sadness, LIACOM extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and former students, sharing in the grief of all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

The memory of Professor João Abreu will endure through the impact of his work, the projects he developed, the people he inspired, and the scientific and human legacy he leaves to the academic community.
