Fátima Lopes Cardoso took part, on May 8, in the “Scientists Go Back to School” programme, organised by Native Scientists, with whom the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa has a partnership. The integrated researcher at LIACOM and coordinator of the Journalism Bachelor’s Degree at ESCS delivered two workshops on science in the fields of Media and Journalism to students from two 4th-grade classes at Escola Básica Cidade Castelo Branco, specifically in her hometown, although not at the same school where she began her educational journey.

Following the principle of circular education, Native Scientists aims to “broaden children’s horizons in underserved communities by building bridges with scientists and promoting scientific literacy and equitable education.” The association believes that “if 4% of the Portuguese scientific community takes part in the programme, every child in Portugal can move on to the 5th grade having met a scientist.”
