LIACOM researcher Fernanda Bonacho took part on September 8, 2025, in the commemorative session of International Literacy Day, organized by the Geographical Society of Lisbon (SGL) in partnership with the National Commission for UNESCO and the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy.
The event was held in a hybrid format at the SGL headquarters, bringing together researchers, academics, and institutional representatives to discuss the current challenges of literacy.
In addition to Fernanda Bonacho’s presentation, entitled “The significance of UNESCO International/World Days celebrations, International Literacy Day, and media literacy”, the session also featured Professor Patrícia Ávila (ISCTE-IUL), who presented an analysis on “The state of literacy in the world and in Portugal”, and Dr. Maria João Ferreira (Directorate-General for Maritime Policy), who addressed “The promotion of ocean literacy in the world and in Portugal”.
