LIACOM researcher Hadassa Oliveira presented a paper entitled “Humor as Refuge: Memes, stereotypes and the challenges of Brazilian women in Portugal”, at the Migra Media Acts 2025 International Congress, which took place between April 29th and 30th, 2025, at the University of Minho.

The communication was based on the preliminary results of an article that the LIACOM researcher is developing in co-authorship with Professor Dr. Andrea Oltramari, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRS), and Dr. Aline Chima, from the State University of Maringá (UEM).

The parallel session in which Hadassa Oliveira participated – “Representations of immigration. Stereotypes, xenophobia and decolonial challenges” – was a moment of scientific discussion focused mainly on the use of humor in the representation of immigrants in communication and stereotypes related to ethnic-racial issues in Portugal.
